Dreamtime Dance Residency 2017

Applications are now open for a week-long Dream Time residency at The Studio On The Green, Selkirk, in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Founded in 1989 by Jenna Agate and Trevor Timms, the Studio is a custom-built dance space with sprung hard wood floor and natural light.

The Dream Time residencies are a creative initiative between Dance Base, The Studio On The Green and Live Borders, Arts and Creativity.

The choice of 5 days (Monday - Friday or Wednesday - Sunday) are between October and November. There is a fee of £750.00. As part of the residency accommodation will be provided for up to four artists at The Haining

The selected artist will have the option of receiving mentoring and/or feedback for up to ten hours during the week (timing is flexible). The project partners will suggest a Mentor to match the needs/experience of the successful applicant(s). Please indicate in your application if you would require Mentoring support during your residency.

The artist in residence will also hold an open class during the week, which will be free (to) and open to local dancers, and at the end of the residency, an open showing to the local community in order to continue to develop an audience for dance and to encourage an interest in contemporary performance practice in the Scottish Borders.

Preference will be given to projects which would seem to benefit significantly from the unique environment of this residency setting.

The application deadline is 17.00 on 1 May 2017.

"The original idea as I remember was to offer a residency that gave an opportunity to get away from the city/town and 'normal' busy lives and to have a chance to immerse oneself in this glorious rural setting of the Borders. There is a peacefulness here that encourages contemplation; walks in the countryside and by the river; time to listen and feel and be; and to allow the creative process to unfold, without pressure of 'outside' concerns. It really is a place where one can fully absorb oneself in the work: staying and eating together, walking daily to the studio, being supported here, quiet with few distractions."

Testimonials:

'...the single studio space has a warm and friendly atmosphere. Jenna Agate was available as a sensitive and valuable 'outside eye' and also host to our work during our 5 days there. As an easily accessible studio space in which to create work, uninterrupted, this place was ideal. The rural location created a calming effect on us all...'

'Both the serene natural environment and the encouragement of our mentor Jenna Agate to use the time and the space for inquisitive exploration meant that the week's activity held a spacious atmosphere. The end of week sharing provided a soft focus for the project's precise planning and unfolding of choreographic outcomes.'
